Main Character Energy, Please
You’ve been excellent at the stuff that earns the points.
You’re responsible. Helpful. Efficient.
You’ve got a Masters in calendar Tetris and a PhD in multi-tasking.
You can run a meeting, write a deck, and inhale a Tesco meal deal in six minutes flat, whilst mentally defrosting tonight’s dinner and replying to Janet’s email with one hand tied behind your back.
You’re always on, on it, available.
You respond to emails within 30 seconds due to your deep and personal connection to your phone.
You can juggle Teams calls, leadership crises and the family WhatsApp group like a Cirque du Soleil act.
You’ve made yourself very….. useful.
But useful isn’t the same as joyful.
It’s a side part.
It’s supporting character energy.
It’s the helpful side-kick in the background of someone else’s storyline, rather than the flawed, glorious, in-motion heroine at the centre of her own.
So let’s begin again. Main character energy.
Putting yourself back on the list.
Not tucked in the margins. Top billing.
Write down the three things you need most to feel like yourself again.
Then ask: Where are these things in my week?
If they’re nowhere, it’s time to reshuffle the list and put yourself at the top.
Go outside and sit under a tree. Ask your body what it needs and listen for the quiet answer.
Find one small joy and let it be enough. Stop trying to be impressive, and start being kind to yourself.
Be a joy hunter. A gentle rebel.
Please don’t settle for survival.
With love,
Tamsyn x
